From existing object to construction drawing
Reverse engineering means the drafting of construction drawings on the basis of an existing object in order to produce another object with similar or identical operation.
This can be particularly useful if you want to modify or reconstruct individual components, machines or even plants, so as to make improvements in terms of performance or cost reduction.
Over the years, our firm has built up considerable experience in reverse engineering, both of individual components and complete machines and plants.
Reverse engineering for individual components
For individual components, if the shape is simple we proceed with three-dimensional reconstruction based on simple measurements; if the shape is complex, we use a three-dimensional scanner. In both cases, the end result is the three-dimensional mathematics of the component.
Reverse engineering for machines and plants
If reverse engineering has to be carried out on large systems, it cannot simply be based on individual measurements or done with a scanner. In these cases, we scan the system manually with the aid of a video camera: one of our expert technicians scans all the individual parts that make up the machine or plant, paying attention to thicknesses, tolerances, couplings, materials, treatments and commercial components. Once all the data has been collected, the scanned system can be reconstructed in the reprocessing phase using CAD mechanical design software.
